Google is working on a new technology to improve the voice assistant function

Google Assistant may soon recognize users’ voices better. According to a report by 9To5Google, lines of code in the recent version of Google’s Android app suggest that Google Assistant will soon get a feature called “Personalized Speech Recognition“. The post shared the feature’s description, which suggests it will store audio recordings on the device to help Google improve its voice assistant.

In a nutshell, Google could store user audio recordings on the device and use them to improve its keyword recognition technology. As the post notes, Google “learns how to adjust the mode from voice data and sends a summary of model changes to Google servers,” which in turn helps improve voice recognition of the entire model and benefits to all Google Assistant users.

Google Assistant will improve in recognizing voice commands

This feature will allow Google to better understand the phrases and words that users say after using the “Hey Google” keyword. This can be useful in situations where users create a text message using their voice and other similar tasks. It’s worth mentioning that Google already uses a chip on devices like the Nest Hub and Nest Mini that process the most common user commands to facilitate faster response time.

In related news, Google is also working on in-device snore and cough detection. Well-known technical publication 9To5Google managed to decompile the latest version of Google Heath Studies. In the app, the publication managed to find strings of code suggesting the presence of “Sleep Audio Collection”. As a feature, Sleep Audio Collection is only available to Google employees. Essentially, the company is working on a feature that will collect audio through a smartphone’s microphone to monitor users’ snores and coughs.

The post also shares an image that shows the quality of sleep, the time the user snored, and the time the user coughed. The “cough and snore algorithms” will be used as a bedside monitor to provide users with sleep information. It is known that coughing or snoring during sleep is an indicator of disorders in the body, which should be treated in time.
