Henderson County Public School Speech Language Pathologist Amanda Glover has been named the District’s Exceptional Children Program Excellence Educator.
Glover will represent HCPS at a statewide annual conference in November in Greensboro.
Glover graduated from East Henderson High and began her career in 2017 with Spartanburg County School District 2. She returned home to live and work in Henderson County in 2019.
Although she only worked for HCPS for two years, Glover has had a huge impact on the teachers she supports and the students she serves.
“Ms. Glover creates fun and engaging therapy activities for her students to help them achieve their speech goals,” said Jennifer Shelton, HCPS Exceptional Children Program Director, in a press release. “She creates an environment. warm and inviting for the students to be eager to work with her. “
Glover works with all age groups and helps teachers notice when children have speech and language difficulties that impact their learning, such as fluency, articulation, receptive language and expression , voice and resonance and pragmatic language.
“These are things that impact how students are understood, and we can address them through treatment,” Glover said in the release. “We cover everything from sound errors to communicating basic wants and needs. It is about helping students bring their communication to a functional level in the classroom.
Glenn C. Marlow Elementary Principal Megan Alessi sees firsthand the impact Glover has on students and their families.
“When she talks to families, her eyes sparkle with excitement as she shares the hard work and growth (of the students), and parents see it,” Alessi said in the statement. “As a mom, that comfort and security of having someone talented and loving to work with your student? It is priceless.
In a letter of appointment to the North Carolina Department of Public Education, Shelton and Superintendent John Bryant wrote that Glover is a true professional in everything she does and a collaborative leader who provides valuable advice to her. colleagues on the speech therapy team, the statement said. .
Glover is also an assistant coach with the East Henderson High Dance Team.
