Lynelle Sylliaa started her career in the theater, then became a teacher. She returned to school and earned a master’s degree in speech-language pathology and dyslexia therapy.

Then one day she and her husband took their kids to a bouncy house and fell in love with the concept.

Sylliaa, who always considered opening a business, started making plans and looking for a place. Although opening the business was difficult, she said it was good.

“Everything kind of kept moving forward. Nothing ever stopped the process, ”said Sylliaa.

She opened Loco-Motion Inflatable Play in 2009 on William Cannon Drive and West Gate Boulevard in South Austin. Six years later, she moved to a 14,000 square foot facility at 9811 Vikki Terrace.

Loco-Motion is a place of play with inflatable houses, slides and play areas. There are smaller play areas for young children and a miniature town and ball pool. Children up to 10 years old are welcome.

Sylliaa designed the city based on her theater experience, and she chose a colorful assortment of bouncy houses and other toys. Even the party tables are brightly colored and positioned so that parents can easily keep an eye on the kids while they play.

Sylliaa’s husband, who is a civil engineer, helped design the new location.

Families can bring their kids to play just for the day or rent space for a birthday party. Parents can also bring their own food, and the birthday child can stuff their own stuffed animal.

“As a child, your birthday is a really special experience,” said Sylliaa. “It’s their day. It’s something they remember.

Sylliaa said she has seen children return each year for birthdays as they get older.

When she started her business there were several similar businesses, but since then many of them have closed.

“The key to our success was determination because there were times in our first location where we had challenges and we just had to keep going,” said Sylliaa.
